The Faith According to the Scriptures
Since the beginning of the church, leaders have established statements intended to capture the distinctive content of the Christian faith. The most familiar statement along these lines is the Apostles Creed. Here at the Chapel, we have decided to establish a statement of our own, but by using only the exact words of Scripture (NASB 1995) to capture the essentials of our salvation, our Christian living, and our future.

Stand Firm in the Faith – Sermon
THE FAITH: Our Salvation
We all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, and were by nature children of wrath. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved and sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit who is given as a pledge of our inheritance.
Ephesians 2:3 – Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
Romans 3:23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
2 Corinthians 5:21 – He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Romans 10:9 – that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved
Ephesians 1:13-14 – In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.
THE FAITH: Our Christian Life
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me and His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness. Even so, consider yourselves dead to sin and present yourselves as instruments of righteousness to God. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work until we all attain to the fullness of Christ.
Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
2 Peter 1:3 – seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
Romans 6:11-13 – Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
1 Peter 4:10 – As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Philippians 2:13 – for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Ephesians 4:13 – until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
THE FAITH: Our Future
We believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those in Jesus, for this perishable must put on the imperishable. We appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each man’s work will be revealed with fire. If any man’s work remains, he will receive a reward. The heavens will pass away, and the earth will be burned up. Then, a new heaven and a new earth and death is swallowed up in victory through our Lord Jesus Christ, and we shall always be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 – For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 4:17 – Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 3:13-14 – each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
1 Corinthians 15:53 – For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1 Corinthians 15:55 – “O death , where is your victory ? O death , where is your sting?”
1 Corinthians 15:57 – but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:10 – But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
Revelation 21:1 – Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
